Erik Meijaard

Dr Erik Meijaard is an orangutan expert who has worked on the science and practice of protecting the species since the early 1990s. He is Director at Borneo Futures in Brunei Darussalam and an Adjunct Professor at The University of Queensland and University of Kent. He is a long-term member and contributor to a range of IUCN specialist groups and co-chairs the IUCN Oil Crops Task Force. His research background is in tropical ecology and biological anthropology, but he has branched out into many sciences, all of which relevant to solving the problem of halting orangutan declines and facilitating the recovery of this species and the many other species of the Asian tropics.
