One of the principal missions of Oryx is to support conservation authors in their endeavours to make an impact in conservation, wherever they live and work.
Communicating research findings clearly, to both national and international audiences, is integral to making an impact. This is where we can help, working closely with authors to provide them with the editorial and media support they require, from the initial submission through to editing, publication and the writing of a blog post to promote their article.
“Our paper improved considerably as a result of the meticulous editing work of the Oryx editorial team. It is by far one of the best experiences we have ever had when publishing a scientific paper!”
As additional support we maintain Writing for Conservation—a guide to help authors with their scientific writing and the production of publication-quality figures—and a list of our recommendations for free and open source Tools and resources, and we also offer writing for conservation workshops.
Various metrics illustrate the impact of Oryx and of its authors:
The impact of Oryx is international. Since 2010 we have published articles from submitting authors in over 100 countries:
All Oryx articles from volume 1 of 1950 are available on Cambridge Core. In 2019 Oryx articles were downloaded more than 300,000 times.
Scholar Metrics illustrate the visibility and influence of articles, authors and journals. The 2020 Scholar Metrics for journals cover articles published in 2015–2019, including citations from all articles that were indexed in Google Scholar as of June 2020.
The metrics are the five-year h-index and h-median. In the Biodiversity & Conservation Biology subcategory, the h5-index and h5-median of Oryx are 32 and 45, respectively, placing the journal in the top 20 in this category.
The Impact Factor also illustrates the visibility and influence of journals. Clarivate Analytics publishes an annual Journal Citation Report, the most recent of which, for 2019, includes citations in that year to articles published in 2017 and 2018.
Oryx has a 2019 Impact Factor of 2.199, ranking it 23rd of 59 journals in the Biodiversity Conservation category and 80th of 168 in the Ecology category.
