Sandra Teoh and Louisa S Ponnampalam
Zhi Yi Teoh (Sandra) is a conservation biologist and Programme Manager at the MareCet Research Organization, Malaysia’s leading grassroots NGO for marine mammal research and conservation. Her work focuses on understanding the ecological and behavioural needs of the coastal cetaceans, using these insights to guide science-based and community-driven conservation efforts for marine mammals and their habitats. Sandra is also a National Geographic Explorer.
Louisa S. Ponnampalam is a marine mammal scientist and conservationist from Malaysia. She is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the MareCet Research Organization, Malaysia’s leading grassroots NGO for marine mammal research and conservation. Her work focuses on developing marine mammal science in the country, so as to better understand their ecology, which in turn helps inform decision-making and drive local conservation actions, and builds local interest and capacity for this field. Louisa is also a Pew Marine Fellow.
