Call for papers: applied parasite conservation

The nascent field of parasite conservation has made great advances in forecasting extinctions, detecting population declines and assessing extinction risk. However, the major challenge in advancing parasite conservation is the development and implementation of methods to halt the decline of threatened parasite species and restore their populations. A forthcoming special theme in Oryx—The International Journal of Conservation will focus on applied parasite conservation, including (1) methods to monitor threatened populations, (2) captive breeding techniques, (3) best practices for reintroduction and translocation, and (4) perspectives on overcoming major impediments to implementation of successful conservation programmes (e.g. attitudes, legislation, the taxonomic impediment).

We are seeking proposals for manuscripts on this theme, initially in the form of a Title and Abstract. Authors should send the Title and Abstract of their proposed article to mackenziekwak@gmail.com, stephanie.godfrey@otago.ac.nz, and oryx@fauna-flora.org

Submission deadline for title and abstract extended to: 7 February 2025.
